Abstract
The purpose of this doctoral capstone project is to understand the value of the occupational therapy profession's impact on cognitive deficit members of Town Square. The importance of using occupational therapy assessment scales and treatment/interventions for programming to enhance what is currently implemented. A gap within the literature has been found after searching for a correlation between social participation, dementia day program, and activity engagement. The focus is on how adult day services can support individuals with dementia but require proper clinical background from various professionals. Mentoring is essential to professional growth and development and is foundational for enhancement. A narrative design approach was implemented to explore the participants' experiences through storytelling. The transcription of interviews was used through the NVivo platform, and in vivo coding was implemented. The student investigator identified the themes “told,” and the story can be cast during a conversation. The four themes discovered are, Synthesis of Collaboration, Modifications, Activities and Experience. The main findings demonstrated the value of the doctoral occupational therapy student yet exceeded by this project’s collaboration, enhancement and growth. One limitation of this study was that minimal follow-up questions occurred during the semi-structured interviews, as reflected by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), due to limited in-depth responses as not expected. This Doctoral Capstone Project will highlight the importance of the doctoral occupational therapy student in various roles at Town Square.
