Abstract

This qualitative cross-case capstone project explored the perceived benefits and barriers of integrating occupational therapy (OT) services within hospital systems in Da Nang, Vietnam. Two hospital administrators from Da Nang General Hospital and Da Nang Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital participated in semi-structured interviews, followed by member-checking meetings to validate the collected findings. The data was coded and analyzed using NVivo software, and themes were identified through an inductive process. Emerging themes included present OT infrastructure, decreased awareness of OT, cultural norms within Vietnamese patient care, resource shortages and time constraints, and readiness for OT integration. The findings emphasize the important need for increased OT education and culturally responsive approaches when addressing healthcare implementation. This capstone project contributes to the growing literature on global OT practice and its development across borders and highlights the significance of context-sensitive approaches in expanding rehabilitation services.

Keywords: Da Nang General Hospital, occupational therapy, hospital administrators, cultural humility, qualitative research, rehabilitation services.
