The collection consists of theses written by students enrolled in the Monmouth College graduate Physics program. The holdings are bound print documents that were submitted in partial fulfillment of requirements for the Master of Science degree.

The collection is open for research use. Access is by appointment only.
Access to the collection is confined to the Monmouth University Library and is subject to patron policies approved by the Monmouth University Library.
Collection holdings may not be borrowed through interlibrary loan.
Research appointments are scheduled by the Monmouth University Library Archives Collections Manager (723-923-4526). A minimum of three days advance notice is required to arrange a research appointment for access to the collection.
Patrons must complete a Researcher Registration Form and provide appropriate identification to gain access to the collection holdings. Copies of these documents will be kept on file at the Monmouth University Library.

Abstract
The spectral output of a ruby laser may contain a large number of discrete frequencies which correspond to different allowed modes of the laser cavity. All these modes lie within the spectral line width of the laser line. It was the purpose of the present study to introduce mode selective elements into the cavity in order to reduce the number of modes in the laser beam.
The approach was to build a conventional laser cavity with plane parallel mirrors and to couple a short resonant cavity to the long laser cavity and to add a Q switch cell to the resonant cavity in order to select only one or a few axial modes.
For the selection of transverse modes an aperture was added to the laser cavity. The aperture selects the lower order modes for which the differentiation losses are lower than for higher order modes
The spectral line width of the output beam was analyzed with a Fabry Perot interferometer. The narrowest line width was 12 mÅ, which indicates that the laser was operating in at most one or two axial modes.
