Dynamic waveform : power adaptation in wireless LANs, 2002

Item — Call number MU Thesis Gre
Identifier: b2125205
Abstract This thesis presents a method for dyamically setting 802.11 wireless LAN waveforms and transmission power levels based on the wireless channel's signal to noise ratio. Simulation models were developed to study the performance of our media access control (MAC) protocol, SNR-WPA (Signal to Noise Ratio-Waveform Power Adaptation), and compare the performance to a baseline wireless LAN MAC. SNR-WPA method is shown to increase the throughput and range while decreasing the packet delay for...

EE551 communications program project, 1998

Item — Call number MU Thesis McC
Identifier: b2159657
Abstract This project builds upon the Viterbi encoding/decoding project from EE517 and the code division multiple access (CDMA) project from EE518 to model end-to-end digital communications. A C++ project was developed that lets the user select a 32 by 32 pixel window of a color bitmap for transmission. The selected pixels are digitized, and the user can choose to encrypt, encode, interleave, and modulate the bits. The user can select the bit error rate (BER), or choose burst errors, which will...

Enabling telephony services using session initiation protocol, 2003

Item — Call number MU Thesis Pet
Identifier: b2088323
Abstract Changes in the competitive landscape among telecommunication providers have forced the telecommunications industry to reevaluate its cost and pricing structures. Multimedia services are rapidly gaining in popularity as high-speed data connections become widespread. Enabling the delivery of new multimedia services in a standardized way thereby reducing the cost associated with the introduction of new services is the key to the success of [the] telecommunication industry. This need led to...

Enhancements to the SOCKS network security protocol, 2008

Item — Call number MU Thesis Sun
Identifier: b2090076
Abstract This thesis is the result of work done on extending the capabilities of SOCKS protocol. SOCKS is an application layer network security protocol deployed in firewalls, standardized in Request For Comments (RFC) 1928 by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as SOCKS Version 5. There are two proposed extensions to the SOCKS protocol made and implemented in this thesis. The first extension is the addition of multicast capabilities to the SOCKS protocol. The current standard of the...

Evaluation of the Wireless Internet Gateways (WINGS) and the Multimedia Support for Mobile Wireless Networks (MMWN) protocols, 1999

Item — Call number MU Thesis Bal
Identifier: b2194993
Abstract The network technology employed in today's military tactical environment is largely based on commercial network technologies. These commercial technologies are designed to operate in a stable environment. However, many military situations arise that demand highly mobile networks. Communications on the move, continuity of operations when a critical node goes down, and instant communcations in areas lacking a communications infrastructure are just a few examples of situations requiring...

Evaluation of wireless mesh network implementation for backup network access, 2018

Item — Call number MU Thesis Als
Identifier: b7876833
Abstract Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) could feasibly be used as an organization's secondary backup network due to the properties of WMNs, such as dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, decentralized management, and inexpensive implementation. This backup network could be helpful in allowing an organization's business to continue in case of an extended main network outage. This thesis research involved the study and implementation of WMNs to evaluate the feasibility of...

Evolution of change : social networking, local government, and the diffusion of innovation, 2009

Item — Call number MU Thesis Spa
Identifier: 2767938
Abstract The research conducted for this study focused on the new communication phenomenon of social networking and examines if their work and communication could influence the local government agendas. By exploring the possibilities, the researcher will examine this phenomenon through the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) theory investigating and exploring if an individual can create a social network comprised of concerned citizens who then could create change in local government agendas and identify...

Exporting American culture : cultural artifacts on U.S. college and university websites, 2013

Item — Call number MU Thesis Tow
Identifier: b5967401
Introduction [excerpt] This study will expand on previous research of university websites by Callahan (2006), Gevorgyan and Porter (2008), Gevorgyan and Manucharova (2009) and Tang (2011) by using Hofstede's dimensional model of national culture as a framework for assessing home pages of the top 50 U.S. universities, as compiled by U.S. News & World Report. Previous studies by Callahan (2006) and Tang (2011) primarily examined the visual aspects of university websites....

Field Programmable Gate Arrays and their applications to digital signal processing, 1998

Item — Call number MU Thesis Bal
Identifier: b2194801
Abstract Application such as data communications and signal processing require extensive processing power, but when the DSP processing power is not sufficient, the only alternatives have been to add multiple DSP processors or use custom gate arrays. Multiple processor solutions are expensive, require many components, consume too much power and the solution does not always provide the performance needed to differentiate products. Custom gate array solutions deliver the performance but sacrifice...
