Thermoluminescent studies on a LiF (TLD-100) crystal , 1974

Abstract The polarization properties of the light emitted by the thermoluminescent phosphor TLD-100 (Harshaw Chemical Co.), in crystalline form, is investigated for three different thermal and radiation histories (virgin, sensitized, and desensitized). The results of the investigation show no significant evidence of any type of polarization phenomena present for any of the conditions observed. This fact suggests that the luminescent centers responsible for the TL photons are probably anisotropic...

Abstract The non-relativistic energies have been determined for the singlet and triple S states (1¹S, 2¹S and 2³S) of the helium like two electron system. Calculations were based on a finite set of orbitals of the order 7. The set, which includes Laguerre polynomials, is expressed as a superposition of configurations built up from one-electron wave functions or orbitals and approximates the exact wave function. Application of the variational principle leads to a system of linear equations....

Vacuum deposition of silicon dioxide thin films by a CO₂ laser, 1971

Abstract Most conventional evaporation sources consist of resistance heated metals supporting the evaporant. They have the disadvantage of reacting with the evaporant. This results in the deposition of contaminated films. Evaporation with an electron beam eliminates this problem. However, electron beam evaporation can not be accomplished easily at higher pressures. An investigation was conducted to determine the feasibility of using a CO₂ laser to produce thin films of SiO₂. A helium-neon...

Abstract The gravitational instabilities of a system consisting of two homogenous fluids in concentric cylindrical configuration (theta-pinch), in the presence of a uniform axial magnetic field, are investigated. The fluids are assumed to be incompressible, and viscous, with infinite conductivity. The dispersion relation is developed by two methods. In the first, an exact determination is made based upon the time development of an infinitesimal disturbance of the equilibrium conditions. In the...
