Overview [excerpts]

The story of Monster City began back in 2011. I had originally begun it as a side project based on a simple gimmick, "What if monsters existed and lived together with humans?"... The titular Monster City was influenced both by New York City and Tokyo in terms of structure and landmarks....

Monster City started off geared towards a younger audience, but thanks to the Trump election I had a change of heart and decided to rework it to appeal to a slightly older crowd .... I'm not a political person myself, but many of my friends, some of whom are of different ethnicity and sexuality, suddenly became terrified of their own country and what it may do to them. That's when I decided to rework the frame of Monster City, where humans are in the minority and are oppressed by monsters. This was to ensure that any reader could easily identify with the human characteristics ... and could easily understand the plight of being a minority in an oppressive environment. I wanted to convey that this is a real problem that many people suffer through, a fear that society in general looks down on you, and even symbols of liberty and safety, such as government and police, can suddenly take a more terrifying appearance....

Monster City is far from complete. What you are reading is the first 40 pages of a story that is nearing 1,000 pages ....

These forty pages really only scratch the surface of the true terrors underneath the city, but they're meant to get people interested in that hidden horror, to really get them to think.
