Abstract
At the present, the U.S. Army requires its moving platforms to transmit the estimate of their own position at a fixed interval over the existing communication links, the Tactical Internet. This approach places great demand on the system bandwidth because the position information of every moving platform had to be transmitted even when its track variance is within the specified position error limit. If the position error is small, it is not necessary to transmit the position update for situation awareness because such data is redundant. The communication system should be designed with a specified message handling capability. A Predictive Algorithm is proposed whereby the estimated position is measured against the actual position and the error is computed. When the error is within acceptable limit, position update is not sent and the Tactical Internet's system bandwidth is conserved.
