Introduction [excerpts]
Loss of a pregnancy is a very stressful event that has a substantial adverse effect on marital and familial relationships and the communication within those relationships....
The loss of pregnancy before twenty weeks is called early pregnancy loss. It usually takes the form of a miscarriage. Less commonly, there may be an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs outside the uterus. This research will attempt to identify the different communication patterns that occur within relationships following pregancy loss. Personal experience has led me to believe that perhaps the grieving mother and father deal with the trauma of pregnancy loss differently and in turn communicate their despair, anger and hopelessness differently.
