Introduction [excerpt]

In this study, I set out to understand how communication among peer education program participants affected participants' attitudes toward drug use. Peer education typically involves "training and supporting members of a given group to effect changes in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors among members of the same group." In a drug abuse prevention peer education situation, peer leaders attempt to persuade their peers not to use drugs. Specifically, I sought to learn how the communication among members of Reaching Everyone By Exposing Lies (REBEL), a [New Jersey] statewide anti-tobacco peer education program, affected members's attitudes toward drug use.
