Abstract
The purpose of this research is to analyze a collection of commingled skeletal remains and one articulated burial that were excavated in 1960 from Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and determine their probably [sic] identities. Previous scholars believed these remains represented the family members or servants of Scottish Proprietor David Mudie, whose plantation was once where the church currently resides. The purpose of this study is to provide additional information on these remains and shed some light on their everyday lifestyles through the evidence left behind on their bones. Historical evidence was reviewed and various scientific methods were applied including: biochemicial testing (stable isotope analysis), DNA analysis for the sex of one individual, and radiography. Through the evidence within the historical record and within the skeletal assemblage, it is now suggested that these individuals more likely represent persons known as the undesirables and the Redemtioners. Gross examinations also present the first possible case of acromegaly among these skeletal remains.
