Various items that chronicle the origins and early development of the Urban Coast Institute, which was founded as a "Center of Distinction" at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey in 2005 September. The contents include undated planning documents that outline the background, purpose, structure, staffing, activities, and organizational alliances of the proposed Institute. Other materials include "Enhancing Stewardship of Our Coastal Environment," a 2003 progress report issued by the Coastal America Partnership; a 2004 job description for the first UCI director; and prints of slideshow presentations and various press releases and event publications created for "Our Future: Oceans, Estuaries and Wetlands," a Jersey Shore Partnership conference that took place at Monmouth University on 2004 November 5.
