Biography
Torcon was established as a general contracting firm by Benedict Torcivia in 1965. Serving clients throughout New Jersey, the company completed a wide variety of healthcare and commercial projects for private-sector customers. In 1974, Torcon completed its first project as a construction manager and within 10 years was one of the top construction management firms in the nation.
Both of Mr. Torcivia's sons, Ben and Joe, joined the company in the early 1980's. Together with Torcon's core leadership and a large group of long-time employees, the company expanded and diversified into new growth markets.
New Jersey’s suburban building boom of the 1980s helped expand Torcon's business, as major commercial buildings for clients such as Prudential, Hyatt, Marriot, and Hilton, were added throughout the state. In the early 1990's, Torcon developed strong expertise in pharmaceutical facility construction, serving as CM for several of the nation's premier R&D centers.
In 1998, Torcon opened its doors in Puerto Rico with its Metro Office Park location, situated in Guaynabo. The office has a staff of more than 30 engineers and construction professionals—full-time residents of Puerto Rico—and on-island experience with more than 70 pharmaceutical, medical device and healthcare projects.
After serving the Philadelphia market for many years from its headquarters, the company established its local operations in 2004 and opened a full-service office at the Philadelphia Navy Yard shortly afterwards. Torcon Philadelphia has grown each year and the company is consistently ranked among the city’s top CM’s.
In 2006, Torcon's corporate headquarters relocated from Westfield to a larger building in Red Bank, New Jersey. Torcon was named ENR-NY’s Contractor of the Year in 2013.
