SMP Video
biographical statement
Seth Mellman [Producer/Director]
After several years as a professional musician, I began a career in network television production in 1991. I have worked on countless shows, including Iron Chef America, MTV Music Awards, The HBO Comedy Hour and Racheal Ray ...just to name a few. Like many things in my life, my work in video production developed effortlessly, some might say accidentally, out of my interests in music and television. It was a natural fit.
In 1999, I moved back to the East Coast after 19 years in Los Angeles. Shortly after establishing SMP Video in Princeton, NJ, I got to know the people at HomeFront, a local not-for-profit that serves homeless families in Mercer County. The 15-minute documentary that we created to help them raise awareness among funders and legislators went on to become the 2001 Videomaker Magazine/Panasonic Grand Prize Winner.
I take special care in developing relationships with both my corporate and individual clients. The result, I believe, is evident in the quality and uniqueness of each project, and in the lasting friendships that I continue to enjoy with current and former clients. Corporate and not-for-profit clients include WithumSmith+Brown, Mercer Regional Chamber of Commerce, American Heart Association, QualCare, The Girl Scouts, HomeFront and the rock group America. I also consider it a privilege, not to mention great fun, to share in the many personal celebrations that are part of being a special event videographer.
On the surface, some might think I'm doing things in reverse order. The glamorous Hollywood life, followed by corporate events and documentaries. The truth is, the individual relationships I have developed as an independent videographer are a refreshing alternative to the world of network television. My priorities have shifted, and my goal now is to create a powerful video that is enjoyable to watch long after the initial exhilration has passed, and for everyone to have a good time in the process.
