Milestones in the history of Harvey Church
1853 - A Methodist society forms
1871 - Church cornerstone laid
1872 - First service held in church in August.
1872 - Church incorporated as First Methodist Episcopal Church of West Point Pleasant.
1876 - Building now completely finished, cost $2500.00
1902 - Balcony removed, ceiling lowered, electric installed, Steeple repaired after lightning strike.
1903 - Joseph Harvey elected to church trustees. First pipe organ installed.
1920 - Church remodeled. Stained glass windows installed
1941 - Joseph Harvey dies.
1945 - Church renamed HARVEY MEMORIAL.
1958 - Church renovated and enlarged.
1960 - Education building erected.
1968 - Church renamed Harvey Memorial United Methodist Church.
1973 - Ocean Road parsonage sold. New parsonage on Rue Avenue purchased for $45,000.00
1982 - Vinyl siding installed on church buildings.
1983 - Harvey?s Closet Thrift Shop begun.
1985 - Plastic covering installed over stained glass windows for protection.
1988 - Parking lot paved for the first time.
1989 - Sanctuary renovation begins in February. A/C installed. Renovation completed in September, approx. cost $200,000.00.
1992 - Friendship dinners are started.
1996 - Church celebrates its 125th anniversary.
1997 - Church buries time capsule to be opened in 2072.
1997 - Pipe organ refurbishing and enlarging begun.
2002 - Church celebrates its 130th anniversary.
