Biography

Cooper Wheelock is a Long Branch, NJ company specializing in fire alarm, general signaling, and mass notification products. The company is a result of Cooper Menvier's acquisition of Wheelock Inc in 2006.

History

Wheelock was founded in 1922 by John Wheelock. The company originally designed complete fire alarm system solutions, which were manufactured by SIgnal Engineering & MFG Co. Wheelock was the first company to utilize march time as a signal code, which allowed single-stroke bells and chimes to pulse continuously. Some time between the 1950's/60's, Wheelock became an independent company. They also stopped manufacturing fire alarm control panels and initiating devices, and instead focused on notification appliances. In 1976, Wheelock was the first company to patent and introduce a visual signal that utilized a xenon strobe. These strobes were used in the 7001/2/4 series horn/strobes (A "T" moniker was later added in 1985 when the horn's grilles were redesigned). These horn/strobes were noted for their "skipping" sound produced when the strobe flashed.

Current Products

Wheelock continues to manufacture notification appliances with the HS (Exceder) series horn/strobes, MT series multitone appliances, E series speakers, and RSS series strobes. Wheelock also manufactures vibrating bells (MB and 43T series), electromechanical horns (31T series), chime/strobes (CH series), and also a complete line of industrial mass notification devices and systems.
